How to Set Default Keyboard Layout in Windows 11
When I got my new laptop with Windows 11, I ran into a small but annoying issue—the keyboard layout wasn’t set up the way I wanted. My system language was in English (which is fine), but the keyboard layout was also English, and I wanted it to be Croatian. Naturally, I started looking for how to set the default keyboard layout in Windows 11 so I wouldn’t have to deal with constant manual switching. This guide will help you understand how to set default keyboard layout in Windows 11 quickly.
If you’re in a similar situation, don’t worry—changing the layout of the keyboard in Windows 11 is pretty straightforward once you know where to look.
If you go to your Windows 11 Start button and search for Control Panel (for example), you will notice that the operating system is really using English as a default language:

If you check your settings, you will see that you have both English and your local language installed:


But the keyword will be set to English by default:

You can go again to your Language & region settings and change the order of the languages:

Default keyboard language will be in your local language:

But in this case, some parts of the system will be in your local language:

Go back to Language & region settings and set English as the primary language:

Now go to Typing options:

Click on Advanced keyboard settings:

Choose your local language as a default for your keyboard:
